With the launch of its first title, LOL Land, Yield Guild Games (YGG) announced YGG Play, a new game publishing unit dedicated to lighthearted, addictive games that embrace the chaos and culture of crypto degeneracy. With YGG Play, YGG aims to define a new genre in gaming: Casual Degen. The debut game — a browser-based casual board game featuring members of the Pudgy Penguins community as playable characters — surpassed 118,500 pre-registrations prior to its exclusive launch on Abstract Chain and 25,000 players on its opening weekend.
YGG’s questing programs allow games to target and engage real, qualified web3 players and empower gamers to build their onchain reputation. Each questing program recognizes players’ efforts and achievements with soulbound tokens (SBTs) and additionally rewards users in YGG points, YGG tokens, or in-game assets.
Guild Advancement Program (GAP) contains quests that promote the exploration of new games, boost in-game activity and deliver new content for the community.
GAP Bounties are focused on gaming operations tasks such as moderation or game testing.
As part of its mission to onboard millions to the open Metaverse, YGG has established hyper-localized regional guild partners around the world.
The YGG Guild Alliance was also formed as an extension of YGG’s vision of supporting players with onchain resources to equip them for success in their chosen games. More than 40 web3 gaming guilds have joined the Guild Alliance as of June 2024, including guilds not previously affiliated with YGG.
In 2024, YGG transitioned into a Guild Protocol to enable web3 guilds to organize and scale onchain. With this transition, entire guilds can now receive assistance to help establish themselves within the web3 gaming ecosystem.
YGG is always looking to uncover opportunities for its community to level up together. YGG demonstrates this through initiatives such as Metaversity, an educational program spearheaded by YGG Pilipinas to enable local communities to learn web3 skills and uncover income-earning opportunities in web3.
YGG KOLs and community leaders also regularly produce educational content to help YGG community members get started in web3 games or improve their gameplay. For example, YGG has published a tutorial series led by YGG Esports Captain Disi to teach new Parallel players how to climb the leaderboard with only a standard deck.
YGG is continuously seeking ways to secure web3 and enhance the integrity of its infrastructure. In line with this, YGG has taken on the responsibility of being a validator for the Ronin, Oasys and XPLA gaming blockchains and is actively supporting them to ensure their continued security and success.
YGG offers esports tournaments and has a premier roster of esports players competing in games such as Parallel, Axie Infinity and Sipher. The team has won various high-profile tournaments including the Axie Infinity SEA Guild Wars, Axie Infinity Grand Tournament, Parallel Planetfall Invitational, and more.
YGG has hosted several AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions, esports competitions, bootcamps, in-person meetups and other community events.
Various roles are available for the community. For instance, Game Testers play new games throughout the development process to find issues with user experience and provide feedback to help the publisher improve the game. Game Ambassadors, who are heavily involved in the YGG community and have a particular passion for a blockchain game that YGG has game assets in or has partnered with, help manage and grow the YGG player community associated with that game.
